Splitting my time between the US and Haiti (Caribean), I got my first Fiat experience after some research: a low-cost, fuel-efficient high ground-clearance car with robust suspension- the Fiat UNO 2008. Planning to use this car as a test bed for my next US car replacement, I had a bag of mix feelings:
1- the local distributor revised down the service interval from 20,000 km to 5,000 km
2- the air conditioner would allow you to sweat when outside temperature was in the 90's degree, and multiple visit to the distributor over months didn't bring a solution
3- Fiat international customer care seems to be bouncing me around after a few months of communication

Hence my questions:
a- is this a common occurence with Fiat customer care?
b- where else could I find assistance?
c- have you planned to buy a Fiat in USA, what safeguard do you envsion?

Welcome to the forum Rich. :)

a- I think it's a common occurance with most customer care departments. I work on an IT helpdesk and I know how bad it looks when we can't pinpoint the problem, and it gets bounced around.

b- On here? A car garage? Is it just the air con you are having problems with?

c- Que?

Ignore the service interval, 5000km per service seems low.

I know nothing about air con, owning to the fact I have never owned a car with air con.

I'm fairly certain that buying a FIAT Uno in the USA will never be possible, so you won't have anything to worry about there :) FIATs have not been sold in the USA since 1982 and if they do start, they'll probably start with the new 500.

I have no idea about FIAT service and support in Haiti, sorry. Perhaps go to an air conditioning specialist?

The A/C finally died (beyond warranty of course); the culprit is a rotten evaporator (after only 3 years) because leaves have lodged there, due to a lack of filter and made their dirty deed. What is the most cost effective way to replace it?
Furthermore, power window regulator seems to last between 1.5 and 3.5 years; I've pinpointed the problem down to a metallic cable going over a plastic gear (poor plastic material :) ). Is there any sturdier assembly or is an upgrade possible? Should I convert to manual, aka durable, window regulator, if so how?
Thanks in advance for your expertise
