Ive got a problem with my turbo which i'm pretty sure is down to an air leak. It keeps cutting out at idle and if you put your foot down hard it gets to abt 3k and gives up. If your gentle with it it will rev right up to 5k-ish, but im only gettin 0.4 bar boost max as opposed to 0.75 before.

As I said, I'm fairly sure it leaking air, but where is it likely to be leaking from? I cant see/feel/hear anything obvious from under the bonnet. Air flow meter seems to be working correctly, other things that have been suggested are wastegate valve and various gaskets. Anyone got any ideas what i should check first??

cheers, Jim

Have you tried disconnect the boost limiter seeing if that makes any difference?

If not then really it's a case of checking every pipe...

I had my bleed valve pipe melt against the turbo on mine

I had the same prob. Turned out to be a small pipe going from the steel pipe between the intercooler and intake going across to another pipe - which cant remember where it went, only about 15cm long and was hidden in behind a further third pipe. Bout half way down the block.

Gave me a mean waste gate sound though lol

When you loose power does i make a funny sound? I have a track day uno mk1 1.3 turbo and has same sort of problem i can do two or three fast laps then it squeals and it goes slow, i go in for ten mins and go back out on track and do another three laps same thing happens.

Thanks for your help guys. I still havent found where the air is leaking - might have to jack it up and have a look underneath. Not making any strange noises, apart from sounding like its misfiring (prob cos it is!!!)

ok mate heres sdome things to check

actuator may be worn out, not holding its boost or even leaking it
check the outlet pipe on ur turbo (under the car)
check the dump valve (if u have one) isnt sticking
get ur aif low meter checked as its not obvious to look at if its knackered
check gaskets for leaks

other than that, its a case of checking all pipe thorughly.

good luck!

Dunc

Got it sorted - turned out to be a split in the main induction pipe on the top of the engine!! Wrapped gaffer tape round it while im waiting for a new one to arrive from fiat and its good as new.
