Technical Uno: stuttering and hesitating when warm

Hi Everyone,

Here's my next problem with the Uno I've grown to hate

Ok, symptoms. Once warm if I put my foot down fully, regardless of what gear I'm in (although it tends to get worse the higher gear I am in at a lower speed i.e. in 5th at 30mph) the car stutters, judders and holds back. If I let off the pedal a bit, sometimes it will accelerate slightly smoother.

This only ever seems to happen most once warmed up, but before you say it, I've already changed the plugs and leads

I've had this before when the headgasket was on its way out, but thats been replaced and shows no signs of going again.

If I'm honest I'd also guess that the alternator is on its way out, I get the odd flash of the battery light when the indicators are on etc, but in a typical fashion I've managed to ignore this up until now and pretend that theres nothing wrong and perhaps the car is just trying to communicate with me Having never suffered from a dodgy alternator before, I'm led to believe that this may cause the symptoms I've been having, but am not sure.

Obviously with this being a cheap runaround I don't fancy changing parts left right and centre, so has anyone got any ideas where I should start?

This is exactly what happens to mine too. iv had a new alternator and it still does it. so any info would be muchly appreciated.

Guys
This is a common problem on the uno. Usually the vacum advance causes the problem.
Do a search on this forum for your problem and it will throw up many an incident which have been sucessfully tackled, mine included.

Hi,
I had this on my old rally car, it was often quite random as well ie you could do 100 miles of part throttle work and it would be fine and then 5 miles of driving and it would appear.

It can only be one of two things, lack of spark or lack of fuel. The ignition modules (finned item on dizzy) do fail when they get hot.
Or it could be the fuel pump, usually they work fine when cold and driving aorund, but would typically appear when driving that bit faster.
A tried a new ignition module on mine and it was still there, so i tried a new fuel pump and it worked fine after that.

Too well in fact as days later i wrote the car off into a hedge at 70mph

Thanks for the replies all I tried a search but couldn't find much on this, I'd guess due to everyone describing their problem differently?!

I forgot to add that the car is the 1.0 litre i.e. start on a k plate - super uno, I think this is the same model as yours if that sheds any further light?

Yes this is the same as mine, but it could be either, although with it being fuel injection its more likely to be the ignition module.

Doesn't the injection Uno's have a stepper motor on the throttle body? I'm sure I read they did, and they can seize up giving poor running problems.

Can't offer any more help as I'm running a carburetor Uno!

I'll try that first then if it gets any worse Any ideas on the best place to source the unit and approx costs?

Local car part shop should be able to order you one, think mine was around the 15 quid mark.
