Driving the car in second, shifting to third, the gears wil just grind and pop back to neutral, however if held there with pressure, it stays in 3rd, as soon as i let pressure off it pops back into neutral.

Any ideas? its the only gear it doe it in.

Sadly, not good news :(

Assuming that the linkage allows you to select 1st and 5th reliably, 3rd gear probably has a broken sliding hub or associated components. I wonder if someone was shifting gears without the use of the clutch...

Best option, now that you have to remove the gearbox, is to find a complete exchange gearbox or have yours rebuilt by someone who knows what they're doing and has access to replacement parts. I guess the cheapest way to fix is to get another gearbox broken in some other way and swap the relevant parts over.

I'm not sure what type of gearbox an Uno 1100 Mia has. Do you push the lever down to select reverse?

I'm in Johannesburg at the moment, oddly enough (y)

yes, reverse is to the right rear.

There are plenty of Mia gearboxes around. They are roughtly double the price of a clutch. I think I might go that way.. Replace the clutch and the gearbox.

Stevh0,,, It is easy to rebuild the 1100/Fire gearbox,, I have driven a 1100/Fire in the past - that was my first car - and stuffed my gearbox on snap changing,, I have taken the gearbox out and replaced all my synchro's and refitted the gearbox in 3hours,,, it is a VERY simple box to work on,,, even if you don't know NOTHING about it,,, The UT's gearbox is a B!TCH,,, cause if you take it apart, there are 2 small 4mm X 1.5mm bearing look-a-like thingys that falls out when you split the box,,, and if you don't fit that in the place that it needs to go,, you are a bit stuffed then,, Found that out the hard way
