Universal backbox fitting...

I'm considering fitting a universal backbox to my Brava but need to ask a couple of Q's before getting the hacksaw out! I'm looking at buying this as starter..

I've spoken to them and found out the inlet is 2.5" inlet dia. My Brava has approx45-50mm dia o/d. It's hard to get an exact size as it's a nasty U shape as it ducks under part of the chassis. What do i do/need to step up the tubing to suit? Also, the backbox doesn't seem to show any mounting brackets a'la genuine fiat exhaust. Are they ommited from the website image to look better or are they really not there? Any links to pics, fitting info or just shops that have the extra gubbins i might need would be much appreciated!!

Cheers...Andre

If its a universal fitting back box it won't have any (def not the strange two pronged affair) exhaust pins. I've done this personally with a universal back box and its not worth the effort performance wise as you have to chop the existing exhaust about to get it to fit. if your not worried about that and your competant with a welder then carry on, as i said i did it and within a week i thought whats the point on spending good money on a universal fit exhaust and possible lose performance, so i bought a csc exhaust off ebay from redmistracing, and it slotted on straight away. That was from cat back and it cost £200. quality item as well. And took less time to fit then the c**p universal back box.

Cheers for the comments. I have a decent quality mig welder but doubt very much whether the stainless will take to the mid steel too well! It'll all have to be brackets and straps by the sound of it. I'll have to think this one over!

I have the same box as the one your thinking of fitting. I got a garage to do it, he took 60 quid, that was him also including some stainless steel tubing for the join,as the box was wider than the original exhaust. he did a straight weld on, and used the original brackets from my 1.4sx exhaust. He cut a semi circular section out of the rear bumper, and I think this looks a helluva lot better than just having an exhaust underneath the spoiler, It looks part of the car now. I love it and it cost me 90 quid all in. sounds nice too, not too loud, just a nice deep tone.

Awesome dude! Thanks for the pics.I'm slowly warming to the idea of putting one on, particularly as I didn't think I could weld stainless with mild steel! I reckon i'm gonna have a go in a couple of weeks after the track rod ends have been changed....

btw...the backbox looks cool!

I have a Rage 'ST6' with twin 3" upswept on a 1.4 Bravo, the inlet is 2". It was easy to fit, I cut the pipe halfway between the two mufflers and added in a piece with a slight bend which is about a foot long, and a joining piece. I drilled a hole in the side of the boot near the spare wheel so a bolt can go through which the hanger (with rubber mount from Halfords) can go on. Three exhaust clamps and gun gum hold it all together.

I'm going to Powerflow on Monday so they can make me a cat-back pipe because the middle muffler is knackered.

I have a universal backbox for sale if you are interested. It is off that essex racing site too and looks pretty similar. The centre section is just a noise reducer and can be removed easily.

I paid £60 for it so make me an offer.
