Technical undertray scraping.....

hi people, i do a bit f driving in central london, and there are quite allot of speed bumps around, and when i go over them (especially the lil humps that you can put your wheels either side of) something plastic under my car scrapes, i can only assume is the undertray....
now my car is completley standard with reguards to shocks and springs....any way to remidy this????

Avoid speedbumps is the only option i'm affraid! The plastic undertray is at least stopping you scraping your sump off these speedbumps.

Might be worth checking its secured propery and no drooping, but other than that.... as above.

Wasn't there a thread about a recall for broken springs on Stilos? Im sure I read it on here, maybe your ride height has dropped because of this?

I have a scrape sound that I think is the front plastic skirt under the bumper when going over large bumps, so could be normal.

The recall was to repair the spring hangers to avoid broken springs going through tyres. If your springs were already broken you'd have to pay to get them fixed, unless your car was under warranty and you dug your heels in (oh and the garage was a soft touch lol).

The trays under my car hit some speedbumps.

ima give it a go at raising it by like an inch....tbh its not really protecting the sump, cos anythign big enough to hit the sump, will mash the undertray tright out the way....

Yeah its there more as an aerodynamic aide, to well to improve underbody flow for fuel economy I believe, it also stops water splashing up into engine bay, which helps keep your engine bay looking clean lol.

That too is for aerodynamics and fuel economy. But I doubt that will make much noise if it does hit a speedbump, its quite bendy rubber.

my tray used to scrap speed bumps,i looked at my coils one day and seen a piece of it hanging from the shocks

so i changed that one,,should of changed both really as i bought both

about 6 months later i started my car,reversed 1 meter and thud,the other snapped,and was rubbing my tyre,so i could imagine what that would be like on the motorway or highway

could of been nasty


so all stilo owners,check your shocks to see if you have that spring thing that stops it falling and sticking in your tyre
