Hi All,
A friend has just fitted a new alternator to my Fiat Ulysse (2.2 JTD 2003).
The car had been starting and running fine but the alternator clutch pulley was not operating properly so the engine had a horrible erratic metallic sound. It took a long while to trace but we located the noise using an engineers stethoscope! (and diagnosis provided by a local garage who specialise in alternator refurbishment)
The trouble is, having replaced the alternator the car will not start. It turns over fine but will not fire up. It had started perfectly the day before the alternator was fitted!
We have already tried charging the battery and using a booster pack, reprogramming the keys using various sequences described on this forum and elsewhere on the internet, reset the electrics by disconnecting the battery and allowing time before and after reconnection, checked every fuse we can find in the 3 main fuseboxes.
Any other ideas?
You help is much appreciated.
