Hi all!

I am a new to this site after having recently purchasing a 2003 Fiat JTD Eleganza car.

I have had it 3 weeks and last couple of days we have noticed a funny whirring noise (also slighly high pitched noise at times also) and bit of smoke coming out from side of the car after I have turned the engine off. I havn't had any warning lights apart from low oil last week briefly but the oil level is fine!? It seems to have got slightly worse and takes a couple of minutes for it to stop after I have turned the engine off? Any ideas? I hope its not serious as havn't had it for long!
Thanks!

It sounds like the auxilliary heater for heating up the diesel. Does the sound come from the drivers side somewhere near the wheel? It does this when the outside temperature is cold. I have never seen smoke coming from mine but I have heard the whine and you get a smell of burnt diesel as well.

Hi
It seems to come from the passengers side around the middle of the car... It does make whine and it does smell of burnt diesel. It seems to do it every single time I stop the engine... Do you htink its a problem or shall I just leave it as one of those things?
Cheers Angela

Are your journeys very short? This is usually when you get this symptom. If you do a search on the Ulysse forum (search then use advanced to limit it to Ulysse) and type in Auxilliary heater you will get some threads on this. I reported it once as mine started to smell when previously it did not and I was also concerned. Once the weather warms up you should not get this anymore. According to one of the posts if you drive less then a mile and then stop the engine you will get smoke pouring out.

:) Hi welcome to the world of the fiat ulysse! Its fine its the heater under the car to pre heat. Comes with free high pitched whine, smells funny,Smokes a bit but only will run when o/s tempreture is low Even when you lock the car it still crys/whines in your absence Just like the kids. When the summer comes it wont need to do it as the o/s tempreture is higher.

Yes I have been doing the school runs (3 times a day) which are short journeys, I haven't been walking it as am heavily pregnant and it involves going up a large hill! Might explain it amd the smoke.... It does whine even after I have locked it and am going indoors, am relieved to hear its nothing too serious..

Thank you all for your help!
