Two Tipo problems - any ideas ?

I am athe owner of a Brava but also own a Tipo. I have two problems with the tipo . The first is that I cannot dim the dash (digital) (I know .....)and it occasionally fails to illuminate (all functions just no backlight - very hard to see !!!)it appears to happen when the dash is warmer is lots of heat in car including summer. Any suggestions appreciated....
The second problem is the correct connection of the vacuum hoses on the inlet manifold as the haynes manual is not exactly the same as my car i.e. no mention of the two thermo(?)valves on manifold any one know how to plumb them correctly Thanks in advance .....

Digital Dashboard

I have a Tipo 1.8 i.e. with a digital dashboard and the only problem I had with that car up to now (210.OOO km) is the same as you have: It started like you, the dashboard was not lightening for a few minutes and then it was ok and finally it stops lightening forever. I opened the dashboard (easy to do) but find nothing...so I've been to my Fiat garage and they replace a diode somewhere in the board and it comes back to work with no problems anymore...
