Hey people, 2000 Bravo 1.6 problem. Sorry about the length of the post.

every so often (not every time) I pull of in my Bravo it is VERY sluggish. It stays sluggish in all gears till i pull over and restart the engine(sometimes have to do this a couple of times) This is regardless of how light or heavy footed I am on the accelarator. Have taken the car to two seperate garages, one a Fiat dealer and on independant. Both have done a diagnostic and can't find a problem. The car has, unfortunately, ran like a dream when with both garages. I just fear this is some underlying problem that can surely only get worse till I either have a major problem to fix or try to pull out of a junction and get hit when the car fails to pull off in a normal way. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, sounds like blocked injector

Mine used to do this about once or twice a year, sometimes you could clear it by dropping the clutch and revving the ar$e off it.

But it did it 5 or 6 times in the last month or so and wouldn't clear until I restarted the engine. Then on Tuesday Injector no 4 went down and is being replaced at the garage now.

I would say put some injector cleaner in but as pointed out by Tom they are nothing but a waste of money. Don't know if Forte Specialist Injector Cleaner is any different - it's only available from repair centres, not your local Halfrauds ?

Cheers guys, will give it a go, think am also gonna have to travel to a guy a know so he can look at it without charging me the earth.

injector spray is useless the only think i found it good for was cleaning my chain on my mountain bike.

only way to clean an injector is in an ultra sonic bath. joy of having my own lab is i have one to do my own with hehe but this dont help u

some companies will do a remove clean and refit with new nozzles for £30 + vat cant remembr if thats each or all tho. was a company called emeralds in watton that i saw do that tho

re

injector when you lose power the injector light comes on too though?

No injector light showing when this happens, all seems normal apart from the sluggishness.

re

well, i'm sure when my injector was going and misfiring occasionally, i'm sure i got the injector light and it showed up on the fiat diagnostics!

just how bad does it run? take a spark plug out and check how the tips look? or maybe swap the leads?

The fault has to be present when the diagnostic runs other wise it will not find it. For example, I once had a Punto this misfired (or so I thought) at 18mph, 28 mph and 38 mph exactly, but obviously only uder acceleration. The FIAT SMART Laptop could not locate a fault, however the technician felt sure it was the Lamda sensor to blame. Indeed it was.

Unfortunately, the fault need to be replicated when the car is plugged in as if it does not occur, the sofware cannot locate it.

No help to you, unfortunately.

Does it actually missfire or does it just not want to increase revs but still runs smoothly?

If it was the same as when mine used to do it there was no injector light, and no misfire. It just didn't accellerate, the revs went up, but the speed just didn't go up much at all, it felt "strangled" Often dropping the clutch and revving it to 5k+ would fix it.

Although that was on mine, it may be different.

I used to get that if the car hadn't moved for a couple of days, a good boot or a longish journey seemed to sort it out.

Tom - It doesn't increase revs but isn't running smoothly when this occurs. No acceleration till I get to about 2800 revs which can take a wee while then all seems to be getting better but still a bit of lag till I change gear and revs drop, again no power and very slow acceleration. The engine noise drops to a deep rumble,

Barakka - Strangled is the perfect word for how it sounds and feels.

It certainly feels as though fuel isn't getting through the way it should.

Thanks for your responses guys is appreciated.

re

does sound liek when my injector went, but i definately got the dash light come on!

i guess if its failing but not completely it might not fail enough to put the light on?

If it was an injector it would pop and cough like a goodun and the light would come on.

thats if its ****ed.... i would bet its part blocked mine did this when i first had it DILLINGER sprayed that **** in it which sort of worked for 5 mins. so i had them cleaned
