Turbo?

is it possible to fit a turbo to a bravo 1.8? im probably being totally ignorant and stupid on this but i was just wondering?

novitec do a kit but they have to fit it. Not the best idea in the world as the engine is not designed for turbos.

Tom, further to your point, I think that no naturally aspirated engine that has had a turbo conversion was designed for a turbo. You need to alter the changes yourself.

I am not 100% sure what is exactly included with the turbo kit provided, but I think that a proper conversion need to see many parts fly out of the engine and exchanged with new uprated ones. Pistons, rings, fuel pump, cams, clutch, pressure-plate etc. Of course it all depends on the boost provided by the turbo. A stage 1 conversion providing between 30-40bhp could hardly need much changes on the engine.

Yes but the novitec kit (and they WONT supply it as kit only, they have to fit it) does not include any internal mods for the engine.

If no internal mods are provided then you are only doing half a job and your engine will fail after a couple of weeks. Its either that or else the turbo fitted is a cosmetic one. That means power gains are so low that its not worth the hassle.

If you want a cheap turboed car go for the Toyota Glanza turbo...extremely fast, more economical than your petrol Bravo, good brakes, sport suspension, superb steering feel and the usual crap japanese interior. You guys might not see much of them in the UK and they are only available in grey import. Oh yes, and they also come with the much craved for waist gate sneeze.

Or else save up 2 or 3 grand more and get yourself a Mazda RX7....a gas guzzling cosworth-like performance monster (17mpg), tail happy rear wheel drive type of weapon that can kill the ordinary boy racer in minutes.
