BACKGROUND
My van has now had 3 very short trips - 2 to the MOT testing station (now passed) and the latest to our nearest petrol station.
On 2 of the trips there has been a pop noise, reduced power and smoke.
I found that on the first occasion, the rubber air hose that attaches to the inlet manifold had come off: I had used a boot clamp to fix it on, and i have had trouble with these in the past, my boot clamp pliers are not quite long enough for me to apply enough pressure. Anyway, I bought a nice strong large jubilee and put this over the connection and that is now nice and firm.
On the second occasion, the rubber air hose that connects to the metal tube that comes under the engine from the turbo had come off - this had an old jubilee on it. I have replaced the jubilee and tightened it up more than i had before.
(the good news from this is that the turbo does seem to be pushing a lot of air in the direction of the engine)
OIL LEAK
I have some oil under the engine - some has dripped on the ground. I have tried to find the source. There is oil on the underside the metal air tube (mentioned above - see photo 1) but the one place that seems to have the most oil is around the point where it became unconnected on the second occasion.
It might be coincidence, but i am wondering if the oil is coming up the tube i.e. from the turbo.
Is it possible that when a turbo starts getting worn, oil can leak in/through?
Of if this is not possible, is there somewhere else around this area of the engine that could be the source?
