Hey all,

I've got a modified 650cc engine with a dell'orto FZD.
Does anyone know somewhere (preferably midlands based) that I could take it to have it properly tuned so it runs perfect and I get the most from the engine?

Many thanks,
Alex.
Hi Alex, I note your need to have your engine settings adjusted for best performance on a rolling road. Having gone through the same process with one of my engines I would council the following - You must be sure that you are prepared to accept an engine failure during the rolling road run, unless you know 100% what your engine is capable of it will always be a risk subjecting it to high revs and knowing YOUR limit for maximum revs during the test is paramount. Know your limit and stick to it - don't be tempted to 'give it a bit more' because it may make the difference between driving and walking home. With regard to your FZD, it will be help to obtain some jetting components above and below your present carb settings to enable easy changes, remember the clock is ticking during the test and changing jets can take time. Unless your chosen location can supply FZD jets get a selection. Check on-line for providers with sufficient equipment and then check for bad reports too, they should be able to confirm if they can complete the required test on your particular engine. Good luck.

I concur with Ian regarding the possibilities of problems during a 'rolling road' session. With a 652 engine, I would suggest that 5,800 rpm is your ABSOLUTE max. Do you know which variety of FZD you have on your engine? If you contact me direct ([email protected]) I can give you a suggested 'base-line'jet fitment for your engine. I have been running a FZD on a well tuned 652 engine for sometime, and eventually my 'rolling-road' guy just set the carb on his 'gas-analyzer' machine---you don't really need to go on a rolling-road to set the carb up. There are a coupleof companies in the UK who can supply jets etc for the FZD and a company in Italy who can also supply a great number of jets. The Italian company's jets are NOT original Dellorto, but a very good modern copy---I have used them with no problems.
