Just wondering, Kristian and Craig; how do you go about tuning your VE and spark tables. I'm running tables that are loosely based on Kristians, but feel the engine is not as quick as it should be. How much igntion advance can i push before det becomes an issue, and i can get a few more deg by adding a little bit more fuel, yeah? Am aiming for an AFR of 13.2, currently using AFR target tables and EGO correction - but want to map away from that.

Do you use autotune? I've faffed about with that in the past but kept getting vertex out of bounds errors.

I run no EGO correction, and just go logging, then I use MLV and the VE analyse.

Spark tuning is a mystery to me though. I just make sure it doesn't knock. I've driven around a 10 degrees fixed before lol.

What kind of 0-60 are you runinng using the G-tech. Is it close to what I managed on mine?

Kristian

so you'd do a datarun, load it into MLV, then let it re-write the VE table, burn that back, relog, load it into MLV etc etc?

i've not G tech'd it yet, i don't want to start properly flooring it yet - until i'm sure the mapping is a bit nearer where it should be.

what did you base the spark table on? as with the 1242 8v i had a copy of a stock P75 table and worked from that :)

Pretty much it, plus a bit of manual tweaking.

I based the spark table of a generator, it's def not perfect, but as craif says, it's very difficult to get it right on the road. Just run with something that doesn't blow the engine, or get the spark map done on the dyno. If you get the fuel right, your only looking at about £100 of dyno time. Saying that, i haven't done it myself yet, as if your not 100% with you setup, there's little point. I'm chanign and messing with stuff all the time. I will get it done at some point though.

More pressing issues like brake lines now though.

okie kokie. you don't happen to know the max advance that a stock ECU would run this engine at do you, just with the old engine i was pushing around 40deg - am not sure whats 'safe' yet with this engine!

7deg doesnt seem right either tho eh!

yeah my spark timing is bob on, i went and got a proper strobe. i'm not suggesting i run it at 40 (yet) i'm just trying to get some solid data on the engine!
