Need to change the front disks on my Tipo, and was wondering about where was
the best place to jack up each wheel in turn? Don't want to jack up the
whole front end, just a wheel at a time. Current fave seems to be where
lower wishbone joins the subframe, then an axle stand under the gearbox - is this strong enough?

You can jack the car up anywhere on the chassis frame, but obviously not the floor pan! I'd avoid jacking up on the gearbox etc, you never know what you might do, subframes may bend also, and they're a pain in the ass to replace.

If your unsure, use the normal wheel jack to rais the car, and have a look underneath (don't get under the car), this will give you a better view of the bottom of the car and most secure place to jack from.

HTH

EDIT:

These jacking points should be in the owners manual if you have one

AND

I shall not be held accountable for bending your car if it all goes tits up! ;)

I havent had any problems jacking the car up along the cill lip. Just watch out for the steel break pipes they are easy to damage with the jack
