Hey

I have a 1990 Tipo 1.6 manual.

It has been running ok but just recently, after the engine is up to temperature, it has been either idleing really low and nearly dieing (around 400-500rpm) or idleing really high like around 1600-1800rpm. it's really frustrating because sometimes out on the open road it will just die when I clutch and change gears... not to mention rather dangerous lol

any ideas? my boss is an advid fiat fan and we have replaced the vacume hoses but it made no difference.

Any ideas? thanks!

Sounds like carb related. It has a stepper motor fitted and these can go wrong. Get it checked out.

This is the same problem i am currently having with my Sedici, anyone any ideas?
On a sedici, usually the idle control valve gums up and effects idling. Take it off and give it a clean with Brake cleaner. Clean pipes to it as well. Also, EGR valve can stick as well giving poor idle too. Again take off and clean, but watch the bolts, as ive seen the alloy lugs snap on the EGR and its a replacement if you do!! Try also to clean the breather system out as this can effect low rev performance. Finally throttle housing needs a clean around the butterfly. Clean with WD40 or similar.

haha, Tipo 1.6 does not have a stepper motor!

Tipo 1.6 problem probably is the carb. Check the rubber base block for cracks. These split and cause stalling. My one broke altogether and the carb fell off!

The high idle could be the choke mechanism not switching off totally but not likley. It more likley to be cold start idle up valve. There is a small vacuum fitting in the manifold. This is a vacuum switch. They fail open and the idle goes up. it can be disconnected.

Oops. yep, quite right Steve, no stepper motor on a carb engine. Will not answer a post next time with a hangover!!
