Can anyone help?.I HAVE A 1.4 TIPO and everytime i go round a left hand corner i jumps out of either 1st,3rd or 5th.This is the second tipo that has done this to me,it also feels like you are pushing against rubber when you are changing gears.
Any help appriciated thanks

This happens to me as well with my '91 Tempra 2.0. It jumps out of 3rd gear mostly, sometimes 1st gear. It happens on bumpy roads and on cornering.

check under the car to see if the linkages aren´t binding on anything or if anything is stuck under the shift boot. One night i had my cell drop under the boot, couldn´t get into 2 and 4, eventually noticed when the phone rang and i couldn´t find it.:D

Check chassis mount on bulkhead, gearstick to gearbox link small cup shapped mount was not greased at factory,it is slowly ceasing up.This happend to my tipo.Find someone to strip, clean and grease mount (its a pig of a job) but you will have a new gearbox as result.

I've seen a case where the linkage literally fell apart at the pivot point on the gearbox, so perhaps it has lost a bolt or similar!

The ball-jointed rods can be replaced (if you're keen for the best-possible shift quality) - I made up replacements by using rod ends (like a track rod end but miniature - get them from a bearing shop) with threaded bar - maximum adjustability and cured that awful Ghost of Jacob Marley clanking ball-and-chain sound.

Have patience - the gearchange can be improved! Also check the knob isn't loose (I find that the result is a sum of all the little problems!)
