What sort of information would an Engine Diagnostic test come up with when performed on a 1.6 Tipo or anyother Tipo for that matter?

I can only imagine:

Does Engine Start? YES!
Does Engine feel like exploding? NO!

Diagnostic Complete no problems found!

Diagnostic will check for voltage passing around engine to sensors, Contiuity, alternator/battery charging, Load on engine, condition of H/T leads/spark rate, L/T side, distributor condition, plugs, ecu signals to name a few.

Andy:)

fiat diagnostics just tell you what readings are on the sensors, but you cant do a full car analysis, you have to tell the machine what part of the car you want it to look at, but there are way to many to list. i work in a fiat garage and the machines only point you in a direction, they dont tell you if the engine is ok or not it will just tell you if there is an abnormality in the sencor readings and you have to make the desision of what is faulty.

Not getting at you, but Fiat Garages usually haven't a clue, so i always recommend a proper diagnostic centre like a Bosch agent. They know how to use the Machine.

hey, its not my fault the diagnostics are ****e that we use. but the garages are getting upgraded rely soon, stupid lancia are cumin back in to britain and alfa are demanding a seperate showroom, im actualy more of an alfa mechanic.

Well All Italia have proper Fiat diagnostic equipment, and they do a fine job, so i cannot see it being the machines at fault. Its the main dealer's attitude to customer care. Now that is sh**te! Not blaming all dealers, but it seems to affect a vast majority.
As for Lancia coming back, their range of cars are good. planned new models are looking great especially the new Fulvia. Sales in Europe are well up and doing well. Lancia need to be seperated from Fiat to make an impact here and survive.

Andy.

true, but whats your view on alfa. there demanding a seperate show room, a seperate ramp for there cars hidden from public view i will add. they are going for quote "lexus like" there new range of cars are good and they are improving but they have a long way to go before they reach lexus standard mainly on the engine side of things, there seem to be alot of them seasing.

Alfa from my experiance are worse then Fiat for niggles. 156 has fly by wire problems. All throttle pedal switches go and at £320 + vat for the Bosch switch, a bit much Imo. They have numerous electrical problems, and friends brother's car spent 2 months out of 3 months in Alfa garage being fixed. Had only 30k on it and he got rid soon after. When they run right, they are great cars.
Alfa want to distance themselves from Fiat, now that Fiat has cast them off to stand on there own. Their sales throughout Europe warrant this. But, they need to greatly increase their quality control.
Lancia has one shot to get it right. The Beta Rust nightmare is still in peoples minds. Did you know, that before Fiat took Lancia over, Lancia made thoroughbred cars that competed with Jags and Mercs etc. And they did not RUST !!!!!!!! The Beta with its recycled "black" metal rusted in front of you! This is what killed Lancia.
I think the NEW Lancia models will do very well here. They are definately well built and Lancia sales in Europe are up 45%.
Incidently, last months sales in UK, saw Fiat sales up 64% !! That must be the new Grande Punto.
