My 1.4ies has failed its MOT - haven't had a chance to look at it yet but I gather one of the wheel bearings is in danger of seizing. It can't be removed from its assembly and the whole part from Fiat is on back order until end-October. Looking at a bill for £600 or so. Since I suspect the clutch hasn't long to go and the water pump (or something nearby) is squeaking I'm at the point where I'm going to start throwing good money after bad. It's sad but I think it has reached the end of its natural. It is N reg, 75,000 miles, one previous owner (my mother in law) and maybe an enthusiast could resuscitate it - bodywork is good, no rust, regularly serviced etc. Or obviously as a source for spares. It's always started first time and has been a good and faithful second car.
Anyway - I'm offering it free to anybody who wants to come and collect it. It's not driveable so will need a trailer. I live in South Cambridgeshire, about 8 miles south of Huntingdon, close to the A1 and A14. Tax expires end-Sept, may SORN it for a few weeks else it's off to the scrappy.

£600 for a wheel bearing? Nah!

Which one is at fault? A motor factors should be able to get that sort of thing within a couple of days at a fraction of that price. Only hard part would be having the bearing pressed into the hub, but any decent garage will be able to do that for you.

Glad you got home safely. I'm also glad the car's going to be back on the road - as I said in my original post it has been a good and faithful servant and deserved better than a scrappie. Best of luck.
