Technical Tipo 1.4ie electrical probs

Evening all,

Hoping someone can give me a clue as to a slight prob i'm having with my '95 Tipo.

Majority of the time the car runs fine with no problems, but at soon as I turn the headlights on the engine starts to stutter very slightly. In addition, the lights themselves flicker in intensity at the same rate as the engine stuttering.

I have tried turning the lights on whilst the engine is off and there is no stutter at all, but as soon as the engine is switched on the stutter starts.

If anyone can give me a clue as to possible cause/remedies to this prob, I would be most grateful.

altenator on the way out/ bad battery. could even be a bad earth. Get a volt meter and measure the voltage at the battery with and without the engine running.

without the engine running it should be around the 12v
with the engine running should be between 13.5 and 14.4 volts

Looks like bad earth to me.
I would start with cleaning (scratching) the earthing point under the battery, where the thick black battery cable attaches to the body, then to the gearbox.
