Hi

Having previously had a fiat punto and 500 I am considering a Uno. It's a 1301cc. Has anyone any comments on reliability/ ease or repair for this engine. Which engines are the better ones for the uno?

my preference ia the 1.0l fire engined model, but thats just me!,,, and maybe due the the fact thats mines been great too,, but thats to be expected at 39k miles:slayer:

One of my 84 70s cars, 1301cc, has 250,000km on it. Still going fine, needs a clutch one day, not slipping, but shudders a bit sometimes.

Great runner.

Lampredi engine, about 37mpg.

I think if you intend to keep your 500, you have two choices for your Uno. Either a 999cc or 1108cc FIre-engined version for cheap reliable and very economical thrills, or an Uno Turbo for a performance kick.

Parts for the 1301cc are probably going to be getting difficult to find in England, unlike for the FIRE engines which were common in Punto and even Seicento Sporting as well. I'm thinking here of water pumps, thermostats, gasket sets, and the like. Why not ask your local specialist and see what they have? :)

Although Rawill has a good run out of his 1301, and it has a useful amount of grunt for climbing hills etc., I think we'd agree that a FIRE engine generally lasts longer, uses less fuel, is easier to work on, and gives the Uno its basic character. The 1301cc versions were more luxurious and faster, but this is a relative term compared to the stark contrast of the Turbo or the modern refinement of your 500. So I suggest back to basics for the Uno - three-door one-lady-owner 45 is the one to get, then keep it in good nick.

Or a suitably-modified Uno Turbo if you want thrills in a surprising package...

Thanks for the advice. I ended up buying the UNO as the body work was
So good. The engine has 180k on it but seemed fine. Recent new battery, exhaust and radiator. It's the one in the classified ads. I would of preferred the FIRE engine but not seen any decent ones for price. When the 1301 finely gives up is it possible to swap and put a FIRE engine in presuming find a cheap rotten 45. Sadly I know longe have the 500 due to company car.
