General Thinking of..

Selling the GT, and getting a Fiat Coupe.

I never driven one, so am not clued up on the handling/drivin experience and maitence of one. So any advice there would be great.

Also i presumming the best one to go for would be the 20v Turbo?

What are the 16v Turbos like too?

Also whats the coupe forum? So i can do some research into one??

I will always remember H saying that his Coop cost £3K in maintenace and repairs to do 3K miles and Sammi has always said that buying the Coop is the cheapest part of owning one.

Yer the maitence part puts me off. But it will be only used at weekends.
I did look over at the coupe forum and alot of people say they dont like ones that just sit around.

Um.. decisions decisions.. Ill know ill only regret if i dont enjoy it and end up spending alot.

Thought since Y2dom has been a member 2 1/2 years and has posted in most FFs sections he would know we had a coupe section, and that he was asking what the coupe forum was that would be the answer.

Find one that has been looked after (the coupe forum classified are a good place to start as many cars are enthusiast owned with no expense spared and you can look at past posts for any problems), don't buy a modded one, don't thrash it from cold, check the oil religiously and it'll cost no more than any other 220bhp, £4k turbo'd sports-car to maintain

Where do you live - the coupe forum organises plenty of meets all over the UK, so you could go along and chat to some owners

Yes as Chaos mentioned I often say that. Remember it is a sports car and you will be paying sports car prices to run one. If your budget is tight it might be better to wait a while before you commit yourself and look into it properly.

My engine was sound and was a decent car but it did cost a bit to look after, the cars are getting on in years and with the ages and mileage they are hitting then it is common to be spending quite a bit to replace things due to age etc.

There are lots of things to consider when thinking about the coupe.

Probably the most reliable and easiest to live with is the 20v non turbo. Power is good, looks obviously superb and no where near as paranioa inducing as the turbo version. If you want to modify then there are a few easy mods but no 'massive' power gains - the choice of aftermarket alloys is far greater as you dont have the big brembo caliper clearance problem to contend with.

Without a doubt the most exciting, fun and tunable is the 20v turbo!!!:devil:
This model will make you smile and shake when you drive it - its fantastic performance wise, however, you must buy a good, cared for car - not necessarily low mileage, because a bad one WILL cost you DEAR. If you are looking to tune and modify the options are vast and you can up your power from 220bhp to 300+ or 400+ if you have got the cash - of course the maintanence costs will then increase. (There are a number of excellent independant specialists who will be cheaper and better than using Fiat).

Remember though, drive it hard, modify it or dont maintain it properly and you will pay £££££'s. Oil consumption is heavy on most - do not ignore this, too many coupe engines die because the oil is not taken care of properly. Great fun car to own though.

Age is a consideration too - alot of Insurers wont insure you if you are under a certain age and premiums can be high if you are young.
