Im thinking of selling my uno mk2 999cc, and ideally going for Uno turbo (mk2) or a VW golf (mk2.) I have seen a decent mk2 golf, but its a 1.3 litre and I have been told 1.3 golfs are a waste of time as they have trouble pulling their own weight. Is that true?

Also, I have seen a really nice golf mk2 1.6 litre, but its done over 130,000 miles.

As far as the uno turbo idea goes, Im not looking to spend more than £400-500 pounds, and Im not sure what sort of condition car I can expect for that much money.

What sort of condition mk2 uno would I be able to get for the 400 - 500 pounds mark?

As OldSkools says I think you'll struggle to find a roadworthy car for that sort of money. Ebay cars without MOT and unknown problems reach these sorts of figures. I reckon you're looking in the region of £750 for a car with a long MOT and reasonably sorted. A nice clean example will attract closer to £1000 perhaps even a little more.

Rob_Mk1 bought his Mk1 for £250 but appears to have required a fair amount of work to get it on the road. Fortunately he is a skilled welder and dedicated to getting it sorted.

Forget a 1.3 golf, it is a much bigger car and will be very slow especially compared with an Uno Turbo. A 1.6 would struggle to match the performance but is much better matched than the smaller 1.3.
