Do you really consider WELDING without removing whole interior first - or at least the material on the LH front floor? Do not forget to remove the seat first!
Do it properly, or do not do it at all. I believe treatment with anti-rust agent, acrylic mastix (used for bathrooms etc.) and Hammerite will not hurt the car as much as bodgered welding - at least it will not burn through the protective layers of original paint, giving way to vicious rust!
It is my bitter experience with a guy who thought he knew what he was doing before I bought the car speaking here.
Anyway:
If you take a closer look at the plastic clip holding the wires, you will notice the clip can be squeezed and played around until it releases, then you can easily pull the braid out (if memory serves right, there is another one located at about half of the lenght of the door) and use a tape to attach the whole thing e.g. to the steeering wheel to be away from where the welding takes place.
Sorry for sounding arrogant, but what I see here is the very thing that sent my beloved first Uno to scrapyard - I may be oversensitive :bang:
I am going to be removing the whole interior but I was just wondering what it was and where to get replacement from!! and also what do do with wires hehe. might remove interior tomorrow so I can get a very good look at what exactially needs doing - to see if it will be worth it
Hey Binks, do you have that amazingly rare Uno find of rust free doors?!!!! Yours look good from the pictures.
Good luck with your refurb, though if it all goes tits up and you decide to scrap the car let me have first dibs on the doors! They're in the same colour as mine too
There is just above the lock where it was broken into before, a little tiny spot where it was rubbed down lol. That will be repaired before long anyway
going to prep them and respray them I think - in the red it already is
I am near on 100% im getting rid of this now ... Not sure what to do with it, scrap it, break it, OR let it go for a few quid to a member on here (if someone wants it) or ebay it or something...
What would be best?
I really dont have the time or money to put into it as I would have liked to
And there are NO Uno's around here so I cant even get another and use it as a donor car ! its a shame to see it go, but it has too, its taking up space on my drive lol!
I will try 1st in the classified, as it would be easier all round to get rid of it as one whole car ... With any luck another uno will pop up in the next week and I shall be back! lol . Will let you all know, will have a think tomorrow
