Hey all.

I seem to have a problem with people trying to break into my car. Its the second time its happened in under a year. The c**ts keep having a go at the locks with screwdrivers. Currently the passanger side lock doesnt work and the drivers side lock is damaged. I have spent hundreds repairing the damage to the doors and interior already and cant keep forking out.

I was thinking about getting a remote central locking kit with a built in alarm and dooing away with the original locks and smoothing them over.

I was just looking for any input, recomendations or thoughts on the idea.

Cheers in advance
Rich

Thats what I'm going to do, but I don't have a problem with theives. I'm going to get a central locking kit and an alarm kit seperate off eBay, fairly cheep, not sure how easy to fit on your own, but I'm going to give it a try.

Cheers

What about as a another alternative being able to actually cover the key hole/ not removing it just making it a little more difficult for people to stick a driver in it.

is it possible to make something like this-

http://www.blackengineering.co.uk/images/Ka/Door Lock Covers 5.jpg

obviously there would be no hold (just for illustration)

No real bodywork is needed then and it should be a dirt cheap method of covering the lock.

Obviously if someones wanting to get into your car they will but the fact theres no driver hole will make it harder?

comments?

links?

Ian

Due to the way the lock's held in Id suggest that the cover idea is pretty much impossible unfortunately.

Ive considered something similar but i'd only be for aesthetic purposes.

i have smoothed door locks on my cinq,, problem is it worrys me that if the bat goes dead i cant get in without breaking in myself
so id end up paying for a new window if that happens

good alarm is a good idea though ;)

A thought came to me .. What is in your car that the thieves are so desperate to get at ? ....
A good alarm would be better I think, even the simple stickers warning the car is alamed helps, perhaps one with the simple mobile tel dialer fittted, this rings you when the alarm goes off.. as well as makes a hell of a racket, the one I have fitted to my motorbike is run from its own power source no problems with flat batts and no alarm.. dead simple to wire a small battery into the system so its kept seperate from the main power but is charged when the motor is running.. same principle as used in campervans etc..

So 2 guys are out on safari and they become aware a lion is stalking them. One of the men starts to slowly put on his trainers, the other says "you're not going to outrun a lion" and the first one replies "I don't have to, I just need to run faster than you".

Corny old joke but it's the same with security, you don't have make this impenetrable fortress of a car, you just need to make it more hassle than its worth so they move on to the next car.

To that end put in a decent alarm and make sure people know you have one installed, if you have a stereo front that's removable then make sure you take it with you etc...

all you need to do is fit a small plug somewhere hidden which will take 12v

like this:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1397&criteria=connetor&doy=18m4

tape one under your rear bumper with duct tape or to the spare if its under slung and the other to live and earth dangling just under the front bumper that way if you cant get in because of a flat battery you can clip the other end to a set of jump leads and to a donor car and unlock your doors..

Just an idea ;)
