My 96 Bravo over heated last week. Got it back on tuesday. Had to have new thermostat + Housing as old Housing failed due to a manufacturing fault BUGGER!! £200 to fix. So with that + new cambelt & tensioners £400 so far in just under 2 years and 31000 miles. Still think its a great car though YOU CAN'T BREAK US THAT EASILY FIAT!!! Anyone else with same problem?

I had erratic idle problems on my old 96 1.4 sx, fiat put it down to a malfunctioning thermostat, water temp sensor (are these 2 the same thing?) and a fecked lambda sensor.

The dealer i bought the car from refused to do the work on warranty, but a different dealer was happy to do the work!

So shame on you, PRIORY FIAT of MANSFIELD, and big up & massive shout to AUTOWORLD FIAT of CHESTERFIELD, whom, incidentally, always bend over backwards to help, possibly the best fiat dealer around?

P.S, i got the fan belt & cam belt done at a local "backstreet" garage, he charged £90, and that included the 2 belts!!!!!! BARGAIN

Tony.

200 quid to fix the thermostat!

I went to the fiat dealers bought the part for £20 and fitted it myself, even with messing around it was less than 2hrs labour for an untrained mechanic!

Re: 200 quid to fix the thermostat!

If it was a manufacturing fault how come you had to pay? Surely it would be under a warranty or something?

Thermostat is a wear part

Remember the thermostat is a wear part, the quality of coolant for instance influences. I have a 97 Bravo with 101k and had to replace the thermostat this week. My problem was that the car wouldn't heat up. Really annoying since the engine continously overfuels because of low coolant temp. This increases wear and makes the car run rough.
