Interesting! Pretty ambitious too.

My Uno Turbo to-do list:

- Buy some paint stripper and remove cheap white lacquer from rear bumper, abrade and prime with plastic primer, mask up to repaint
- Clean up replacement tailgate hinges (probably off a red Uno)
- Paint bumper and tailgate hinges
- Replace rusted/worn out tailgate hinges with assistance from a friend (umm, jjhepburn are you reading this... ;))
- Re-install headlining
- Clean carpet with Bissell Little Green Deluxe machine
- Re-install seats and boot floor
- Remove camera mount and reinstall seatbelts
(hopefully finish up to here in two week's time)

- Finish other projects (a certain Honda Concerto, and tidying the house)

- Find the secret box of foglight parts (somewhere in the garage) and clean them, refit lenses with epoxy resin, refit lamps to front bumper
- Make up a box for the boot to fit my 12" carbon-fibre sub
- Arrange a shelf for the amplifier under the passenger's seat
- Install Kevlar front speakers, crossovers, tweeters, wiring
- Install one of two alarms I have (can't decide which)
- Remove heater box and refasten loose hose to evaporator core. Reinstall twin radiators and fans for the air conditioning, reinstall compressor, replace receiver/drier, get the system charged up.

...finished!
I'm anticipating early-February completion...

Hi mate on your list you say your repainting the rear the rear bumper, just to say how bad is the paint i would first try wiping it off with thinners, no joy then try blowing it off with either jet wash or air line, or sand it down working down the grades , like 320s to 500s plastic doesnt like paint stripper good luck with the 2 do list she's got me a 2 do list but on the house FANTASTIC!

Alex keep us updated on the progress mate and by the way i love the pic of your car in the other thread. ;)

Hi Ant, i guess i slightly exagerated mate lol the bumper isnt too badly damaged its just been scuffed in a few places, i've gotten rid of the horrible black marks left behind by other cars but in places the paint has actually been scraped off!!
Its a hormann bumper and fibreglass, just needs tidying up in places as i hate looking at the marks cos it makes me :(

Anyway today i managed to get my 2bar boost gauge inside the original instrumenation pod, so thats one more off the list :D Took foooookin ages to do but well worth it in the end even if i do say so myself :)

Ummm... I wonder if the comment about the paint stripper was directed at me? ;)
I've found that paint stripper works fine with the plastic bumper. I like to use the aerosol can version as it's a little less messy (however, the can nozzle tends to clog easily - has to be shaken for ages first). I then use my waterblaster to get the paint/stripper off. Sorry, I think the UK name for 'waterblaster' is 'pressure washer'!

The reason I need to get all the paint off is because it's flaking in some places - or more accurately, the grey plastic primer is flaking off - so the whole lot has to go back to bare plastic before I try again.

Anyway today i managed to get my 2bar boost gauge inside the original instrumenation pod, so thats one more off the list :D Took foooookin ages to do but well worth it in the end even if i do say so myself :)

Yes, well worth it, lovely job. It's even in bar rather than psi, and not with a chrome ring or some other ghastly low-rider style. Don't know where you get gauges like that - all our aftermarket gauges are ancient American designs made in China.

I always like to spend a little while on instruments, lighting etc. as you do spend quite a while with it in your view!

Hey frosty i like that gauge i saw some clocks for sale with them but left it, how did you do it, come by the gauge NICE CAR MATE Ant!

Hey ant, Its not that hard to do but its quite tricky mate, i got the gauge on ebay, its a TIM Gauge and its 52mm in size, been looking out for one of these ones for a while as they normally come with the black face and seeing as i got a white dial kit this gauge looks right at home in the instrumentation pod Also changed the standard green light filter to blue whilst i was at it too. :D
To fit it, i took the old boost gauge out and swapped it over but for it to fit properly you have to pretty much take the entire cluster apart, i had a spare set of gauges which i used just incase i mucked it up lol
I marked everything up and then drilled two new holes into the white plastic housing at the back and made the existing hole for the old boost gauge larger, you also gotta hack away some of the inside of the housing so the gauge can fit inside properly. Once it was fitted inside i had to cut some of the excess plastic circuit board layer bit away so that the gauge could be pushed as far back as possible.
Finally i then put it all together again. The gauges are extremely delicate, i cant stress that enough, you have to make sure you dont touch them at all. what i did was remove them all and keep them aside so i didnt damage them accidently whilst fitting in the boost gauge then put all of it back together again.

Cheers for the comment Alex :)

Dunc stop taking the PSI mate lol
Well each to their own but i prefer bar as its what the original UT gauge uses so thought i'd keep it in the same measurement. :D

i still have the OE boost guage in there too :p

creses me when it whizzes all the way round lol

Dunc

my OE gauge did the same thing mate except it went round twice till it got to the point where the needle would point dead centre upside down when the engine was switched off lol So could no longer rely on it for an accurate reading of boost hehe

Alex, I'm not sure if epoxy resin will be suitable as in my experience it can be rather brittle when set. I read in a classic car magazine a tip for re-sealing/ attaching glass lenses to lamps, and they found a product called 'No Nails' worked extremely well. It's used for attaching shelves without nails hence its name. I think any good hardware store should be able to supply it and it's not that expensive either.

And just to make everyone jealous, I picked up a pair of used but good mk1 fog lights off Ebay for 99p! Ok, the postage was about £8, but getting hold of mk1 fogs is getting very difficult and I was surprised that no-one else bid on them. They'll look good when I finally sort out and fit them to my SX front bumper (y)

Those are quite some lists from everyone. If I sat down and did a 'To do' list it would probably end up about the same length, and I'd think 'Oh Hell...' at the amount of things needing doing.

Mind you, if Dunc sat down in and did a 'Have done' list I'm sure he'd shame all of us!

Are you going to bring your UT down to the ACE again soon Fro$ty?

Thanks for the tip. I've used epoxy on several headlights before - and I find it stays a little too soft if anything! Maybe because I'm using genuine Araldite (made in Australia...)

I'm a bit worried about the temperature resistance of 'No More Nails' (latex caulking). What about polyurethane (Morten's favourite word) adhesive, like for sticking front wings on and for sealing leaky tigers? (I guess calling it 'Tiger Seal' was more exciting than calling it 'Wing Stick-on')

The excuse for all those jobs in my ToDo list being deferred until now was in the name of weight-saving - now, the Toyo Series is over, so there's no more Motorsport for the Uno Turbo (next year, I'm thinking of running the Stilo...!)
