I'd kind of agree with Custard, the cars are very old now, not loads left and in my opinion the UT is moving decidedly into the classic car scene, kiddies have moved onto cheap Saxos. The site would be better dedicated to owning, maintaining and restoring uno turbos instead of the current bling it up bad boy fit me big bad ass dump valve, up the boost, wreck the clutch and blow the HG crowd.

whats wrong with whacking the boost up??? lol

ive kept mine looking OE, no silly bodykits etc, just as fiat intended really. ok, ive got a mk1 boot on a mk2, an aftermarket grill and a huge FMIC, but the arches and sideskirts are OE. i even looked for months to get 2 mint sideskirts with "Turbo i.e" written on them!

taken me ages to restore my UT and i'll even fit the OE black door strips between the windows on the side and the OE bump strips!

gotta keep it looking OE in my opinion

ok, so my engine is modded and the interior is stripped, but the OE dash is still there :D. i could still put everything back to standard if i wanted, but man, a standard UT is so slow lol

Custard and Thebottleflump... Judging by your comments you obviously have no idea about the history of Turbo Collective website and the idea behind it... I originally started the website because there was hardly any information on ther internet for or about Uno Turbo's, and i was amazed at how many people joined and how popular the site became... Over time there have been all sorts of members, from people who want to slap as much bling onto thier UT's as possible to others who like thier UT's to be as mint as when they first rolled off the factory line, however there has never been a set agenda and the reasoning behind TC has always stayed the same, it is there as a rescource and a meeting place for UT owners and enthusiasts... It has never been a dedicated (maxpower / you must bling out your UT site)

At some points the site has been very busy, and at others it has been pretty dead, part of the reason that i am asking the members about thier opinions on what they want is that now the UT is (in mine and many other peoples opinions) a classic car and as such i dont expect the site to be bustling with a million hits per day, however i know that with a newer, dedicated forum that is easier to navigate the current members and possible owners of UT's that are not already using Turbo Collective will (or hopefully should) use the site more as it will not be as much of a pain in the arse as the current MSN group is...

Either way, we have always had a dedicated following of member who are mad about UT's and i dont think that will ever change...

Roll on the next step for TC is what i say... (y)

lob, i think the main issue with the TC is, as you pointed out, the user unfriendly layout MSN offer, i have no idea on how these things work, but can only guess that a move to a FF style forum could well require an absolute shedload of work porting over, but the short term effort and disruption would be easily outweighed by the long term benefits, mainly ease of use. i do hope it works out, as although i used to look in regularly, i dont so much now as finding relevant posts and navigating the layout you've been lumbered with doesn't really help much.

good luck, and by all means lend your vast expertise here as and when you can(y)

btw pottle....as mentioned, not that many will do the bling and boost thing, mainly because those that appreciate what the car is, don't need to shout it out. i had more intrest at gaydon with my battered, almost standard tub than many a newer car.....

well whether it has a dedicated following or not its a dieing car.your into enthusiast teriritory so your really not going to need a new forum are you?
same for the renault 5 turbos.used to be loads of forums/sites but really you only have the owners club now.

better to have an established msn group over a barren forum imho

Firstly, I agree that the main thing turbocollective needs is a FF style forum. This will make it much easier to use and far more user friendly than the current system. Even though I'm very computer literate even I cba to use TC as it is! So yes, a move to a forum style would be a massive improvement.

Regarding the 'bling' factor, another thing that put me off TC was the Ali G. style fake 'gangsta' style language that many people use when posting. That has connotations of Chavishness and the 'bling up ya mota' Max Power brigade. I know it's up to the members how they write but the impression it gives to outsiders not part of that car culture is not good... Some guides and choice articles on the new site written in a, dare I say it, more mature fashion would make the site far more attractive to those interested in the UT as a classic car.

The UT is evolving and changing. The mk1 is now firmly in classic car territory and the mk2 can't be too far behind. Preserving them should be the utmost priority as the numbers will only diminish if they aren't looked after. We all know that our beloved Unos have a habit of rusting before our eyes!

Another suggestion might be to include non turbo Uno models as well? It would broaden the appeal of the site as UTs are very much a small niche market. Having sections for other Uno models could bring other Uno fans in who could then become inspired to buy a UT when they come up for sale? Just a thought!

And one last suggestion. If it all seems to much trouble setting up a new TC site, why not joing forces with Fiat Forum and set up a dedicated UT section on here? Everything is available here - galleries, stickies, guides, technical advice, meetings, classifieds, auctions etc., plus many non UT owning FF members are very, very knowledgeable about engine technology and know about turbo engines plus can offer valuable advice. It would also bring TC into a big Fiat organisation that would give it a lot more clout.

Obviously this would be up to the members of TC as they may wish to remain independant, but it's an idea

Anyway, good luck with the site Lobster and I wish it every success (y)

In all fairness, as much respect as i have for FF i think there is a niche in the market for a site dedicated soley to the uno. I cant speak for all of TC but I personally take a dim view of chavved up unos. HOWEVER i can appreciate them all, wether they're immaculate standard examples or sweet blingin euro styled. I have no problems about postin on both sites but im sure TC will be great with a makeover and i hope to see u all contributing to the new forum wen its up and running. Cars can still be classics with modifications

I do agree with your sentiments Dom, and perhaps the best thing would be to set up a new TC forum and see how succesful it is. If it is too much of a niche/ limited market then there's always the option of joing forces with FF. :)

What do you think about having non turbo Unos in TC too? Though obviously the 'Turbo' part of TC wouldn't exactly apply to them ;)

from when I used to use the site (going back a good few years now) there has always been people with non turboed unos on there. I used to go on and ask questions for my first 999cc uno. Also went back on in the breif spurts I owned turbos too :p

Its like with http://www.golfgti.co.uk . You get owners of all models of golfs going on there. Not just the GTIs

I doesnt have to be just turbos no. I joined TC end of 2003 i think when i had my 903cc 4 speed 45 :p which i loved lol. Even now i have an uno turbo AND a 1.7d uno Van

See....

As for joining with FF i dont recommend it tbh. There are a lot of other fiat car clubs like clubcento, fccuk and puntosports etc who do just fine keeping seperate. In the meantime, best of luck to Tom on the building of the site (u know where i am if u need a hand with anythin) and we'll see how things go once www.turbocollective.net is up and running

I agree with Dom, keep the two forums seperate Lobster!

Dont you worry lads, TC will always be its own forum, if its worked so far and its only been an MSN group im pretty sure we can make it succeed with all the extra's and ease of use a dedicated forum will bring... Dont get me wrong i have nothing against any other forums, its just i like the fact that TC has become what it has and its nothing to do with anyone else...

Even if the new TC site doesnt become as busy as some more established sites for newer cars it doesnt really matter, is all that matters is that it builds on its crown (correct me if im wrong) of being the best website in the world for uno turbo's...:D

Sorry just read my comment and it could be taken in a negative light. My comment was to ensure that the forum isn't aimed at the gansta chav massive that these sort of cheap but relatively fast cars can attract but continues as a professional website offering useful technical advise on owning and maintaining a UT with an improved forum, not suggesting it was a gangsta chav massive site.

End of the day it's a very niche and diminishing car, not far off the Strada now, many chavs have abandoned for cheaper and easier to run cars, such as the Saxo VTR/VTS which frankly is a far less of a headache to own and run and a much better chassis. I'm a member of the www.Strada130.co.uk forum which has an active contribution of about 10 people, and is hardly worth the effort, you might be better of affliating with another club/forum with an individual branding within the forum. e.g. Fiatforum incorporaing the Turbo Collective. There are too many one make "car clubs" but I guess you don't want to do that.

thepottleflump why are you trying to educate us on what chavs do and dont drive? it really annoys me when people like you go on about chav this and chav that like your better than everybody else, just get a life mate.

i'm glad TC isnt merging with FF that would be a terrible idea
