Car: My Sister's Tempra TDS Estate

Problem: When she locks the car the central locking works apart from on the Left rear passenger door. It just stays unlocked, and you can't push the door pin down to lock it as it won't move. It is solid.

I thought it could be seized lock motor.

Any other thoughts????

A common problem (we have had 4 locks between 2 cars go), sounds as though the lock motor has seized. although its possible the wiring to the door has broken or the plug on the lock has fallen out but this is most unlikely. The lock can be changed with one from the appropriate door (locks are handed side to side and slightly different front to back) from a Tempra or Tipo but it is fiddly, takes about 1-2 hours to do it yourself. Locks from Fiat are expensive so the local motor breakers is the best source, they do come up on ebay occasionally.

If you are going to do it let me know, I'll try and do a "how to" along with the pages from the fiat workshop manual.

Thanks very much,

Sorted it last weekend. It was a seized motor. Got one off an estate in my local scrappy.

Took about 45 mins to do. Was able to do it with the door subframe undone but still in situ, there was enough movement to get the motor in and out and re-attach the rods :)

Cheers

I've tried it like that in the past but ended up cutting myself on the sharp edges of the subframe. Takes longer but I prefer to take the subframe off now.

Anyway, glad you got it done
