Hello friends. I own a tempra 2.0 with twincam engine, 8 valves.
I wonder if someone can help me to find some service instructions for that model, sice I checked with Porter and Haynes manuals URL's that someone provided, but they are not helpful enough.
I would be grateful if anyone with good knowledge of this car/engine , can help me and lead me into some basic principes, since I got some serious problems that I cant solve.

Looking forward for your response.

There were no aftermarket manuals covering the twin cam models.

The Tempra isnt a complex car though, any work I`ve had to do has always been easy without needing specific instructions.

You only have 1 option really, trying to get the official Fiat workshop ones.

You maybe able to get a pirated copy on CD Rom, although I got one & it didnt cover the Tempra & was very dificult to understand anyway.

What problems are you having? Some of us may be able to help.

Thanks for your quick response.
Here is the problem:
I have this car for 3 years and it was perfect in any seance: great engine, fast etc, until my car started to act like 50% of power.
I checked everything, alredy replaced a eng. speed/ref mark sensor and ignition distributors phase sensor wich was damaged.
I checked all other sensors ( air intake etc), and the weird thing is that if I disconnect Idle acutator and coolant temperature sensor, the engine works much better, but still far from as it should.
Any idea of what could be the problem ( I am suspecting of some electrical problem)?
The other thing is that I would like to know about those 4 vacuums/valves since they are all connected to each other and air inktake system.
Thanks in advance

The only thing that worries me is that yours is a 1998 one. They stopped the Tempra here in 1995 & most of them are TD`s, hardly any twin cams were sold here.

Yours may be a later type ignition system that we didnt get & there may be alot of differences with the ignition system (& injection) compared to our ones.

Does yours have a normal distributor with a rotor arm?

When you say the "Idle actuator" do you mean the throttle position sensor (electrical) on the side of the throttle body, or do you mean the idle valve on the side of the engine?

If its running normally when you diconnect both the coolant sensor (the blue top one?) AND the throttle position sensor, but only when BOTH are disconnected at the same time, then I`d check the wiring & connections all the way through the engine management circuits & also look at getting another ECU thats known to be good, or, get yours tested if you know someone who can.

Other things that come to mind are:

Lamda sensor
Blocked catalitic converter / exhaust silencer
Fuel filter/fuel pipe/tank blockage
Restricted/dirty throttle body / intake

In case you see one in the scrapyard, most (if not all) of the mechanical & electrical components in the Tempra are also used in the Lancia Dedra.

As far as the vacuum pipes go, I can only recall one on the bulkhead just under the wipers, I think its a Ford one & I`m pretty sure it only does the economy indicator on the dashboard.

Unfortunately I`ve leant my Tempra to a friend, so I cant go outside to check which ones you mean!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your quick response.

Thank you very much for your response.
My Tempra is 1992. not 1998, and it has a a normal distributor with a rotor arm.
I have cleaned the fuel system, and at this point I am afraid that I might have some electrical problem that maybe gives wrong voltage to sensors etc...
I am expecting a friend of mine to come with his KTS 500, to recheck all sensors and ECU, and I will see what will happen.
On the other hand, I have many questions about some engine parts and sensors, so I will take a photo of engine and mark the vacuums wich I am interested about.
Thanks once again.

I had one with the same engine that developed a misfire, not too bad, and a loss of power, it turned out to be an injector that failed, when we took it out it literally fell apart.

Does this help Daz?

Ok, the one on the inlet plenum chamber in the middle goes under the manifold, into a thin metal tube, back into a rubber tube & onto the manifold pressure sensor which is screwed to a metal bracket (under the black plastic cover) on the bulkhead just below the windscreen (pic 1).

The one on the right just below the throtle body goes under the inlet to a valve on the other side of the plenum chamber, between it & the bulkhead (pic 2).

The valve is still available from Fiat according to eper (which amazingly worked for me today!(y)), part number (5939615 on the Tempra) for about £23 inc VAT.

Nice one! glad its sorted mate. (y)

As far as the valves are concerned, I think they are for the economy gauge (I`ve got the digital dash) which usually work from the vacuum taken from the inlet manifold. I think the 2.0 Tipo`s had analogue dashboards (?) so wont have them.

I dont know that for sure as I dont have a manual!

I cant think of any graphics I need, but I`ll let you know if i do!

Cheers!

:D

OMG.... It runs normal again, Thank you so s much, if i can do anything for you regarding any graphics i'm you man,,,,

Right heres another teaser for you...

Right ok cherrs for that, Mine has the digi dash too, but my tipo started life out as a standard 1.4DGT, and i did all the mods myself some time ago, Plus there was a period of 2 years where i didnt own the car (only got him back 2 months ago), so i can only guess its been messed about with by the person i sold it to,

Cheers mucho for your help mate....

Regards Dee

I need a cylinder head for this engine because I have a sparkle problem. It just flew out from a cylinder head and I can not screw it back because it doesn't fit to the hole any more. If some one can help me i will appreciate.

Thank you.
