I have a Fiat Bravo 1.8 hlx on a N plate (96).
About two years ago the front offside suspension coil spring literally exploded whilst i was just about to pull off my drive. After some wrangling Fiat paid for a new one which I fitted. The problem is that the new spring has a small green dot on it but all the other springs have a yellow dot on them. Apparently the bravo should have green dot springs as this is a lower more sporty spring but if this is the case then the wrong springs (yellow dot) were fitted at the factory. All the Fiat dealers that I have contacted state that the Bravo should have green dot springs. I have even contacted Italy to try and clear this matter up. Has any body got any thoughts/suggestions as I have to either change the green one or the three yellow ones.

change springs /shocks in pairs on the same axle
or change all 4
or go to a performance garage get them to supply and fit spring/shocks

money, money, money

Seeing its on a 96 plate, I doubt if you will get fiat to agree that the wrong springs were fitted at the factory! If i was you, i would go for the cheaper option, which is just to have the odd spring replaced so that all the springs match up

Seems Strange

The majority of modern cars are built on a production line. To have the wrong springs fitted seems highly unlikely (not impossible) as the fitters have a bin of parts all the same. I could understand maybe 1 spring being incorrect.

Did you buy the car from new? If not I would almost suggest that the previous owner had either ordered the car with that configuration or that your car may have been an import with a different spec.

Anyhow, springs aren't that expensive, fiddly to fit yes and a bit time consuming. (I have also nearly killed myself on an Abarth 131 doing a strut change and broke 2 fingers doing the same on a firends escort!)

Springs, like shocks and brake components should ALWAYS be replaced in pairs across the same axle so I am surprised Fiat agreed to only changing one without either warning you or even refusing to do it!

Cheers
