I have just had the worst dealer experiance of my life.

Booked my '53 Punto 1.2 Active in for a service, cambelt change, MOT and front pad change. What a list, well first off, no discount for all the work in one go.

First, the valet was not done, as listed (told bring it back another day, we were busy).

Second, the engine managemant light no flashes when I go above 3000 RPM? Returned to get it checked, charged £30 + VAT, and told nothing wrong. Drove less than 1/2 a mile from dealer and light started flashing again. Decided to check myself and found that not all the plugs had been changed (unless they get very rusty in a month). Replaced and seems to run better, but fault is still there. Going to buy an OBD2 scanner and check for the fault myself.

Intersting, that the dealer just told me that they would look for the fault, but that everything was chargable. When I asked if they would help with the cost, due to creating the fault in the first place, they said no and were not bothered if I ever returned.

Needless to say I will not be visiting any of the dealership again.

Make yourself a large placard telling people to avoid Fiat Dealers and stand on the pavement outside - Sunwin might start to be a bit more helpful.

Did the invoice show that plugs were supplied ? Get trading standards involved if it did.

Sunwin used to have a dealership in Nottingham and they were rubbish as well. Stick to small family run garages for the best service.

Thanks for the support, I will try Trading Standards, but might be a bit difficult proving anything.

I will keep an update here.

not exactly fair on the other 140 odd dealers across the UK is it !!!

acefreecell, firstly welcome to the forum:) The service you recieved is very poor (there is always to sides to every story so perhaps someone from Sunwin would like to comment?) and the flashing EM light is high speed misfire. Wether this is down to plugs/leads or another problem needs to be diagnosed properly, the least Sunwin can do is offer to look at the car.

Hi T14086 and thanks for the welcome.

I do not believe that all dealers are bad, but just passing on my bad experiance of one dealer. The problem is that some dealers just do not seem to care if you return or not. (n)

I do however find the information on this site very helpful. :D

With regards to the fault, I have replaced the plugs, leads, coil packs and had the ECU checked for faults. The next thing is I am going to buy the diagnostic unit and trace the fault.

Surely it is much better to have the placard say that Sunwin charge for parts and dont do the work for example? Make sure you are on public property when you park too!

The placard needs to refer to "Fiat Dealers" and not a specific company in order to negate any legal response for loss of business.

To be honest unless you have the correct diagnostic equipment you could be in for a rather lengthy trial & error. However if you are 100% sure the plugs (correct type not aftermarket) and leads are ok, then you have to look at what would cause this error. Such possibilities are rpm sensor, crank pulley, valve or ather mechanical damage etc.

knowing the weird way in which the law can work, wouldnt that open up all 140 to make a legal response for an anomolous blip in sales...?

the only one I have ever seen was parked outside the dealers on the main road and said 'look what these cowboys sold me, 2 weeks old and the paint is falling off. not covered under warranty!'

He was parked their less than 15 minutes aparently before they offered a like-for-like swap (obviously with correct paint)!

reckon so mate, just strange how its only above 3k rpm. acefreecell is light flashing all the time now or only after 3k rpm & is it all the time...need more details.

Thanks for the help guys, it is nice to know people still care.

Firstly, the car runs fine, no apparent misfire, starts first time and runs and idels very smothly.

Now to the problem:

If I run the car below 3000 rpm, then no issues (that I have seen so far).

However, if I sit on the motorway, doing 2800 rpm, then accelerate to 3500 rpm, the car will pick up and speed start to increase. When I then lift off, the light will start to flash and will stay flashing even if the revs drop below the 3000 mark (not recomended, but dipped the clutch so it goes to idle and the light still flashes). However if whilst the light is flashing, I accelerate again, then the light will stop untill I lift off again.

I am wondering if it could be one of the sensors, but also perhaps the injector or O2 sensor?

I was thinking of getting the Autel MS509 OD2 scan tool to try and get some error codes from the ECU. Thinking that if I had some idea of where to start it would be easier to trace the fault.

The other thing is it could be a loose wire?

If the fault points towards the coil pack I have got an S4P987 coil (shop4parts).

I live in Nuthall if you need it.

Cheers mate, just changed both coil packs to be sure. Got them from the same place (shop4parts) very good price and service.
