Such thing as a FREE HPI check?

I'm intending to buy a car off E-bay in the next few hours - Is there such a thing as a free HPI check?

Don't get me wrong - I've no problem with paying for a HPI check AFTER I'm the winning bidder of the car. But if I were to HPI check every car that I had an intention of buying, my profits would be out of the window, lol.

Alternatively, if I gave someone a registration, could they do some checks with it? etc?

But that one doesn't tell you whether it has Finance owing on it or not.

Too late anyway - Already won the car.. So after I've spoken to the seller, I'll run a HPI check for the full cost I guess.

I know when i looked you could buy packages like 6 hpi checks for the price of 2, was quite a good deal but i never needed it, it only tells you of outstanding finance and if its been a cat d etc wright off. Well certainly the cheap ones i look at were.
