Hi,
Managed to finish a road rally last night, poor little Uno took a real pounding on the rough roads. Sump guard need weldign back again, engine (broken before) still needs doing and i got a mis-fire after a deep ford. Anyone any ideas how to stop water cuasing problems around the spark plugs and HT leads. Water proofed everything else.

Pics of car back home are at http://www.chelmsfordmc.co.uk/gallery/PublicRoadRally

Pics of the car in action will follow latter.

Cheers

Matt

glad to hear you made it! well done, as for the electrical stuff, what about that damp start stuff that sort of puts a seal round the contacts? i guess with the pounding the engine takes you would have to respray every stage but it might work.

Bag up the distributor cap with a plastic bag and seal it with tape or an elastic band.
I recall amateur rally car drivers using a heatproof silicone resin around the sparkplugs to keep the water out but cannot remember the brand name.
Another solution could be copper grease as it conducts electricity and may keep the water at bay.
Have a look at rally page forums for more info.
Good luck mate

Dizzy and coil are all sealed up with PTFE tape/silicon sealant. Its where the water gets trapped in the well in the inner two spark plugs, hadn't thought of copper slip, might try that.
I already spent too many hours (and work hours !!) on the rally forums so i might try them as well.
