erm ive just left my B alone for 7 months (the shame) now on restart (first time) i think the alternator is stuck etc. (its a bugger to get to round the back) cos the V belt starting smoking and burning like mad. Yikes.
Ive tried "donking" the alternator with a hammer and rod, other than that will i have to take it off etc. Im miles from a mechanic or a ramp.
Any other tips?

That's not going to work if he started the engine and it didnt move!! Then again, I have never known a serviceable alternator to seize just after being stood, very strange. You really need to do as much as you can to free it if indeed it is stuck, maybe take the belt off and have a go because as mentioned in other threads it is a major job to remove it from the car:( Please let us know how you get on with it and shame on you for not using it for 7 months:eek:
