Hi,

I have a Petrol 1997/8 Fiat Brava 1.8.

For the past few months I have had a whistling/high pitch noise/ring coming from the engine of the car.

The noise occurs when standing still, however as soon as I touch the accelerator it will fade away completely but returns when the revs come back down.

It doesn't seem to be temperature related as happens when car is cold and warm.

If any more information is required please let me know , thank you for any help!

Cambelt tensioners/ waterpump?

Some shield resonating?

You could take the aux pulley off the end and that would rule out alternator bearings and all the other stuff on those belts.

Welcome to the forum Mike, nice to have another 1.8 owner :) It might be the idle valve solinoid, I noticed mine made a light whistle sound when the revs dropped onto idle. I since cleaned up the solinoid because it was also sticking and its fine now.

Could be split intake pipe somewhere.

This is the solinoid valve.
