Hi guys!

Alright, this is probably my first post here on the forum so let me introduce myself. My name is Nino, im 19 years old and live in Sweden.

---skip this part if you dont like sentimental stuff
When i was like, 9 or 10 years old, i went to school by bus. I would allways pass this yellow, rare, semi-sporty looking car.
So one day, i jumped off the bus just to take a clooser look at this car. It was a 3d stilo -02. Thats is the moment i fell in love with stilo and i've wanted one ever since!

BACK ON TRACK!
So i just bought my first car, a stilo, a couple of months ago and i've had problems with it since it didnt pass the vechicle inspection. My exhaust values are a little high so i think its the catalyst thats starting to break down (the car has 84 000km on its back) But thats not really my problem...

The problem is that the car sometimes enters some kind of fail safe-mode where the engine wont rev over 3500rpm. I shut down the engine, wait 10 seconds before i start it again and the problem is gone... for about 5 minutes.
Can somebody please help me with this?

I've searched the forum but havent found a satisfying answer to the problem

Hi and Welcome to The Fiat Forum! I cant help you much but it will help others if you can tell them the model & engine the car has :D

You could try changing the air filter if it hasnt been changed recently, & maybe even an oil & filter change too. Add some injector cleaner to a full tank of fuel & take the car for a nice long high revs blast down a lovely quiet Swedish back-road somewhere (Italian tune-up) :)

thank you :) i already feel like home :p

I roll in a 2002 16v 1,6 :)

Sorry about not telling about the stuff i changed, my bad :)

First thing i did was fuel her up and add some full system cleaner
changed:
air filter
oil and oil filter
cylinder head gasket
Lambda (only one was faulty)
spark plugs
and some leaking exhaust parts

That just leaves you with the Italian Tune-up then... the fun bit! (y)

Do you have any warning lights at all? Thinking you may have a failing spark plug or coil pack / plug lead....

i've been doing a lot of tune-ups :p drove 90km/h in third gear to head up the catalyst before the inspection but that didnt help :(

If i reset the system by disconnectiont the battery, it runt normal for a few days. A week tops. but thats about it. Yeah, i got the engine fault lamp on and a fault code P0460 (fuel level sensor cirquit malfunction)

I recall a Post from Deckchair5 on this subject, from memory this code is generic, happens when there may be low voltage issues (maybe dirty multi-plug connections) around the fuel gauge or the fuel level sender unit. This results in I think the MAF sensor losing the plot in terms of calibration & "guesses" parameters... something along those lines anyway... so may be time to buy some electrical switch cleaner & start cleaning contacts / plugs etc in the fuel management circuits.

I talked to my mechanic today (also known as my uncle :D ) and he told me he'd take good care of my car, last time i talked to him about the car he told me to sell it...

anyway, today i experienced a new problem. As i was shifting gears the engine just stopped. I gently pulled to the side (power steering was still working with the engine turned off?). I fired her up again and the engines rpm started dipping, like it was struggling for air. At one point the rpm was below 400rpm, then it went up to 600, down to 300, you get the point. I struggled to make it home to check the engine compartment for any visible damage but i didnt find anything

I appreciate advice guys :(
