I don't know if anyone else has been having problems with door handles that stick in the up position on their Seicento. Out of the 3 Seis we have only the 2001 black little black fella has been suffering this problem. It came to breaking point a few days ago when I stopped and the passenger door swung open, luckily at low speed and no harm done...

I removed the handles and noticed that rusty pivots embedded into the plastic at each end were causing the problem. Soaking them in slippy stuff didn't resolve the issue and I was ready to order some new handles to save me wiping out a pedestrian with a rogue door...

Once last try before pulling out the bank card for new parts ended with success. I used a pin vice with a 1mm drill bit and made a tiny hole in the plastic at each pivot point. I then squirted the slippy stuff through the newly made hole and after working the handle for a few minutes they were nice and springy again. :)

Hopefully this might stop someone else from causing an accident with a rogue door and save them some wonga.

Use the smallest hole you can get away with to avoid overly weakening the handle.

Pictures below should explain the process.

One of mine sticks but I can't be bothered with it just now.
I bought some new handles because they have faded and were quite cheap.

Monster would get new of course :)

But this is my little £150 chap and I'm taking him to France tomorrow then Weymouth/Falmouth next week. I needed them working pronto, it gets tiring asking the passenger to make sure they push the outer door handle down when the get in/out and it's very scary when they don't! :-D

Anyway free is always better than cheap. :D

Thank you. I've had two Seicentos and each one has had this trouble. I've just come onto this website to see what others have done before I start trying to diagnose the problem.

Excellent (y) This thread has appeared at exactly the right time. My Seicento's driver's door handle started sticking for the first time a couple of days ago.
