I have got the standard sony cd player in my sei and the screen has just gone blank as if there is no power to it but all the buttons work and it plays fine. what is wrong with it and is it covered under your warenty as my car is only 1yr old and cant afford a new stereo at the mo

is it the Sony CDX 4180R? My display doesnt work at all, and searching on google, many forums say the LED's could have gone, mine rarely even wants to give up the CDs I insert anymore, hopefully getting a new one soon tho

When you connect the CD-player or anything (radio, MD, changer ...) they might need "light". Argh... difficult to explain - easy in Norwegian. One cable on the ISO-block is "light" or "illumination". Try to find out if this cable has a loose connection. If this connection isn't there at all, it isn't supposed to be either.

I see now that this wasn't a very good answer to your problem. Anyway, go buy a Panasonic CD player.

Probably too late for this but anyway. If the model of stereo you have is a face off, i have one suggestion. Use a cotton bud to claen the connections on the head unit and the back of the face itself. might be dirt/dust on them enough to disturb the signal. If this doesn't work, new stereo sounds best solution.

I found a website today stating what colour each wire is, and what is does. Orange is supposed to be illumination, and my car has all the other colours, but is missing orange. I cant see it inside either (if the person had cut the wire and left it). Hopefully this wont affect my new head unit. Im going to try my mates MP40 in there soon, im praying it shows a display!!

I had a pioneer stereo the screen went blank on that all it was for me was the connection pins for the face and the actual stereo one was bent out of shape and not connecting so just have a look and clean them and make sure they are all touching but also if you have to buy a new stereo dont get sony pioneer rule go on the net on "MCS-DIRECT.CO.UK" they are so cheap plus you get much more control over sound with pioneer
