Re: steering wheel removal

Any suggestions for removal of the airbag from an Idea steering wheel?

Thanks,

John

Having read another thread dealing with this, I realised that my elearn cd might have instuctions for same and it did. there are 2 hols either side of the steering wheel and by inserting a 5 or 6 mm pin into both sides, the springy clips on the airbag can be pushed off the clips of the wheel and with a bit of a pull on the airbag, it will come free.

Reason for this was to align the steering wheel. But when I removed the steering wheel, I saw that it can only go on in one position. I had also tried the same as the steering shaft leaves the footwell below the knuckle but again this can only be put on in one position. So can anyone tell me how to align the steering wheel on an Idea which is probably the same as any of the fiats. The one way I'm thinking is to lengthen one and shorten the other tie rod.

Thanks,

John

That is how I would do it. It would have left the factory correctly aligned, during its life the front wheels would have been realigned (tracking) and the technician not bothered doing it equally.
