Having just fitted a new "steering idler" on my Giardi and some new replacement dust boots, my track rod is now fowling the front bodywork of the car. I cannot explain this - either I have done something stupid or the new idler is of different dimensions than the original and pushing the track rod further forward !
Any ideas welcome please
cheers

Have you fitted the outer track-rods and the centre track-rod the correct way? The centre track-rod goes on the outer hole in both the steering-arm AND the idler-arm.

Where did you get your new idler ?
I had my original one failed by the annual C.T. inspection a while back, they said there was too much play between arm and pivot, although not so much that the arm contacted the bodywork.
I ordered a new complete idler kit from FD Ricambi, and noticed right away that it was even looser than my old one. Whereas the OEM one has a proper pivot with a shoulder at the end of the (fine) thread, this is replaced by a run of the mill bolt with standard metric thread on the (sloppy) FDR version.
I went back to the inspector and showed him my options, he was kinda shocked
and passed the old OEM one after all...

well guys, had another look today and guess what - the new part is longer than the old one ! This is why it is fowling the bodywork.

This is the problem. I think "passione 500" sent me the wrong one.
I bought the complete assembly instead of buying the parts to rebuild my old idler in order to save time, but now it seems that it has backfired - and as Italy is closed now I guess I cannot get an exchange so may have to rebuild the old one using the cones from the new one.
