Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my new bought Punto, 1997, 1.7 diesel (I hope the characteristics are wright). Every time I drive the windows steam up very quickly. I don't know what to do as this is my first car. I have read a bit on the Internet and found out that there might be a problem with the filters.
What is wrong? What should I do? :( Should I take my car to the service? Or it possible to fix this problem myself?

Don't worry too much about it - there are a lot of people with similar problems (a quick look through most sections of this forum will confirm that lol).

First of all, check that you aren't re-circulating the air, set it to fresh air. My Dad still makes this mistake after 35 years of driving (and 30 odd of those professionally lol).

Might be worth giving the windows a proper clean. If normal window cleaning stuff (eg Windolene) ain't doing the trick, try mixing 1pt white vinegar to 2pts warm water (with a drop of washing up liquid) in a spray bottle and use that to clean the windows inside and out.

Not sure about the exact location on the Mk1 Punto, but just under the windscreen (lift bonnet for easier access) have a look to check that the drains are clear.

Having a good neb round on here may reveal more possible solutions. I found the above all worked for me!!

Thanks for the advice (y)
I'll try!

Have a feel around the floor carpets all around the car front and back, especially under the dashboard either side of the centre console, any wet patches may mean either a water leak from outside or a coolant leak from the heater radiator inside. Also check in the boot spare wheel well, see if you can see water in there, all these will cause steamy windows.
