I have a 1.8 Marea that has done 47000 miles. When starting off there was a noise as if a belt was slipping. I have just changed the cam belt, auxilliary belt and both timing tensioners. The noise is still there! I have tried without the auxilliary belt on - still there. It only happens when starting from rest and sometimes it doesn't happen. It is definitely coming from the offside of the car. I am wondering if it could be the drive shaft bearing. Has anyone else had this problem.

Does the sound change with the speed of the engine or the speed of the car?
If it changes with the speed of the car it could just be something simple like brake squeal or as you say a bearing. Touch the brakes slightly next time you hear it, if that stops it then it is likely just brake squeal.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply
The noise is only there on start off, it just sounds like a belt squeel. If I start off very gently it isn't there.
