Hello all, I aquired a Fiat 850 Spider. I am not for sure the year. I've tried vin decorders and eper and everything comes up unrecognizable. I've done google searches and your site comes up often so I thought I would pick at your knowledge and see if anyone can help me. The vin plate located on the dash reads 100GBS1xxxxxx. I am assuming the first three indicators are the standard ZFA. From everything I have read anything pre 80's is not standard so most sites like carfax and others will not recognize the vin. From what I remember the car was in California now located in Wichita, KS. The other delima is there is no title. I am told I can get one but not for sure how. Thanks for your help.

So what exactly is your question?

Depending on the state, lost title replacements can be obtained with a "proof of purchase" document (sales receipt) and a noterized statement.

This list shows the year for various 850 serial (chassis) numbers.

I was hoping to find out the year of the car mainly. I downloaded the request form for the title in my state and one of the requirements is the year. Thought about just parting it out. The people I got it from had two cars to which they disassembled one and have extra parts so I have a lot of extra parts plus a complete car. Told it runs just doesn't stay running. I hate tearing apart good cars just because of an issue like a title.

That is a nice and can be very helpful list. Please forgive my ignorance in how to read it. If I were to guess, on the serial numbers if my series of numbers falls between the 009 on the 1971 spider and the 011 on the 1972 spider then I should have a 1971 spider. Is my thinking correct?
