General Speedo not working & PAS light on??

Hi Guys,

I've been battling with the rain all day. First thing this morning on the way to work and I had to drive through a large puddle and the car started running badly. Called my Fiance and he came and sorted it (water ingress into the plugs etc)

Then this afternoon on the way back from work I was driving along and the PAS warning light came on, the PAS stopped working and the speedo stopped working?!? Got back home and turned the engine off and back on again and the PAS light went off and the PAS started working again but the speedo is still not working.

My Fiance tried changing the instrament fuses but this didn't work so now he's stuck!!

Any ideas what it could be??

I have a Seicento 1.1 Sound.

Also, should these cars have an engine tray?

you PAS light most likely came on because the speed signal was lost.

As for speedo itself do all other guages/lights work?

Yes all the other lights / guages are working and the speedo needle moves up to 0MPH when you turn on the ignition it just doesn't regiister any speed.

Now I'm confused!!

Speedo on the MPI cars is electronic. It's possible that water has got into one of the connectors (the one on the gearbox is the most likely culprit).

If it hasn't magically (it will be the water drying out) started working by the morning, try pulling the connectors apart and spraying with WD40. It'll be useful for your next attempt at puddle jumping anyway!

VSS is on the top rear of the gearbox and drives both the PAS, speedo and odometer.

Check the sensor, the connectors, and hopefully you will sort it.

As both systems are taken out, i'd bet you want to be looking in the engine bay at the sensor, an not inside the car

Fiance woke up early this morning to get it sorted for me. Started with the basics. Checked every fuse to see if any were dead. Fuse 21 (brake lights) was dead so swapped with another 10amp one and Bobs your Mum, sorted!!

Me thinks Said Fiance will be getting some tonight....:yum:

were is he speedo sensor situated? Is it that sensor on the firewalls side of the engine or is it on the front bumprs side? My speedo isnt working neither the PAS and odometer so i need to check that out.

It's on the gearbox: sort of electronic replacement for ye olde mechanical speedo drive.

What I want to know, is where are the large puddles. Hasn't rained hard for 6 weeks here.
