I know that this issue has probably been covered many times before, so before I get gunned down........

I have recently acquired a 2000 (W) JTD EL.

The clocks dont seem to work, or be it very inacurratly.

The speedo is consistently undereading whe it decided it wants to work, and the rev counter seems to work normally but then decides that it will not register until you get into the midrange rev band.

The fuel gauge is stuck at 1/4 tank (even with the ign off, it still reads 1/4) and the tempreture gauge seems to be reading little on the low side.

Question is, I know that new clocks are hideously expensive, and that finding ones used is like trying to find rcking horse poop.

So is there a way of fixing these, or is replacement the only option?

Many thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem with the fuel gauge (2003 jtd). I finally took the car on a long run abroad for the first time since my turbo was replaced last year, car seemed to run fine except for the folllowing. From a full tank I drove until the warning light came on saying I was low on fuel. I kept watching the fuel gauge and started getting concerned when the car had done 530 miles to the tank and was still showing just under a quarter of a tank. I put fuel in (unfortunately not a full tank, as I was going to a tax free ski resort where fuel is cheap, as this would have told me just how much fuel I had) I put 40 litres in and the guage stayed where it was. It was only after about 5/10 minutes that the guage decided to move to fractionally over half tank. Since then it has been fine. I think I have had the problem before but I'm not sure. Is this a faulty instrument gauge or the sensor/float in the fuel tank? Any one else had this problem?

not sure if the sender works or not, not had the fuel warning light on, as not let it get that low......

Guess the best wa to try it would be to test the voltage across the sender terminals before and after a long journey.

Looking at the other issues with the dash (Speedo that works whe it wants to, reads what it wants to (94mph whilst sat at lights!), rev counter that never seems consistant (doubt the idle speed varies from 400 to 3500 rpm!) and the tempreture gauge that reads way too low. guessing that the closk are stuffed.

The fuel gauge reads 1/4 tank even when the car is off, the needle is just stuck at 1/4 tank.

Was looking at cluster repairs uk (google) anyone had any experience with them?

I've got similar problem but only with speedo. It started reading way too high and only dropped to 80mph when van was switched off. By turning ignition on and off it would drop by about 10mph each time, so 8 times and I was sorted. A few days later it read high again, so tried my new found trick again. It worked ok for a few days but now needle has dropped further so it reads about 10mph when I'm doing about 40mph.:(
