Speedo and Rev Counter problems

For about a year now my speedo and rev counter have been playing up.
i.e. Speedo will drop to 0 and rev counter will red line at 7k.

The car still drives properly and if you get really frustrated giving it a **** on the back of the dashboard sometimes restores it.

Is this an ECU, loose connection or speedo cable problems?

Any ideas and how much would it costs.

Ahhhhh! The golden rule of the car mechanic - If all else fails, **** IT!!!

Common problem this one. Will no doubt be a connection/electrical problem of some sort which means it will be bloody tricky to sort.
