Spark Plugs

I have a 1.2 16V with champion RA4HCX, The running guide states the 1.2 is best with CHAMPION RA4HCK / NGK DCPR8EKC.

As I do not have these and my car is running like it is missing at times (new leads etc etc, all tested ok) could the plugs be the cause of this problem?

I have spoken to a Fiat master mechanic and he has told me the plugs on the 1.2 are absolutely critical and can spike the ecu if they are not correct causing mis-reading and confusing it.

Does anyone know if the RA4HCK would be ok? I have tested them with an ohms meter and one plug is way off from the rest with its reading.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How often does it missfire? Does it only do it at idle?

Misfires at idle, and not EVERY time, it doesnt seem to be at every engine cylce, only at random times. Also when the revs are held at around 2k any higher than that and you cant really tell because the engine is working faster.

I have just tested the spark plugs with a multi meter, three of them gave a very steady, similar result and one of them was just short of double the others readings.

I think I will try replacing that spark plug first and if it sorts it out, I will replace the remaining three with a new set.

Makes me want to kick myself for not keeping the old ones for testing purposes.

you can always get someone with the e per to check what plugs go into it i know they changed from twin electrode to single electrode around 99/00 . they will need the chassis number of the car

Get some bosch super4 plugs and don't worry about the odd miss.

Its perfectly normal for it to miss the odd beat at idle and holding it at 2k unloaded is just going to make it worse. As long as its not missing when under load its fine.

This is a small 4cyl engine and 4cyl engines are not exactly known for smooth idling. If you want a silky smooth idle get a 6cyl BMW.

Ill have a look at the super 4's then, it wouldnt worry me if it was just occasional, but its all the time. Makes me think the car is just going to cut out at some point.
