Hey all,

Was wondering what people use to clean the sockets where the Spark Plugs screw into?

Have heard RedeX is good but I don't know how to apply it safely.

Any other good techniques people have?
why do you want to clean the plug holes for?:)

simple, dont, you will drop swarf or alu oxide into the bores. I have hoovered the plug sockets before removing them to get rid of the corrosion. use copper grease when putting them back in, and be carefull not to double thread them.

I got gunk down there, I don't know if it might be affecting current.

Had a couple oil leaks when me first got Tipo and I done a couple things without taking necessary precautions and got more unwanted residues/substances down there.

I saw electrical point cleaner in LLoyds motor spares today, didn't buy it cause it didn't mention anything about plugs on the can.

Am I just being Anal or does the sludge not matter?

I have 3M Grease... will that do?

You need to have super high temp anti-seize compound around the threads such as copperslip or aluminium grease.I wouldn't do any cleaning with the plugs out or you're risking stuff dropping into the cylinder heads. Try those cotton wool buds on sticks dipped in solvent to clean around the plugs. Clean the ends of the plugs (the contacts) with solvent and grease with electrolytic grease. Have you changed the leads yet? If not its a good time to get some new ones.

if **** and crap has got down the plug holes, pour a little[about a tablespoon] of redex down each hole.turn engine by hand with plugs out.now put plugs in.pour injector cleaner in fuel tank, and start.take car for a blast up motorway for ten miles.should then be fine.:) (y)

Forgive me for sounding like a doofus but,

How do you turn engine by hand?
you will need a socket and driver on the crank pulley[where cambelt is,the bottom pulley].turn engine over complete 360 degrees several times.:)

just thought.if you are going to jack the car up,use the road wheel in gear[try 4th] to turn the engine over[no plugs in].this will be the same as turning the crank pulley and proberly easier.:)
