Hello there.
A Tipo forum? I thought it was just me.:)

I’ve got a 1995 Tipo 1.4ie, and it’s got a few symptoms that I reckon are related.
I'd be interested to know what you guys make of this.

The injection system warning light comes on whilst driving, causing slightly sluggish performance. It can also cause the engine to ‘rev itself’ three or four times in quick succession, before returning to normal.

Here’s the part that I regard as strange.
This only, repeat only, happens when I have been using the heater.

I have been observing and experimenting with this over many months, and the injection light definitely never comes on unless the heater is, or has been, in use.

I get around the problem by simply not using the heater. I therefore never see the injection light, but I could guarantee that it would return within minutes of me using the heater again.

Further to this, the heater now only works intermittently.
i.e. When I do need to use the heater, it sometimes takes four of five attempts to switch it on.
Finally, the heater controls no longer illuminate, but the rest of the dash is unaffected.

I wonder if any of you have heard of this before, and have any idea what the link is, or a possible cause?

The car otherwise runs like a dream, so this doesn’t particularly bother me. However, with winter on the way it would be really nice to have a heater again, and it might be time to start dealing with this.

Thanks.

I'm no expert but it sounds electrical.

Check the heater instrument panal buy changing the bulbs first, this may be a simple problem.

As for the intermittant Heater and Fuel Injection the only way I could see tehm being related would be buy a faulty Alternator maybe?

maybe the heater is draining too much current and causing the fuel injector to play up.

Failing that the heater motor may be on its way out this probably wont affect the injector but the sudden intermittant heater and the injector may be unrelated.

Good luck keep us informed :)

Hello again, and thanks for the feedback.

I would never have thought of this, but it's interesting that you mention it.

Sometimes when I start the engine the alternator light lingers just a little longer than it should. It disappears by itself,or a gentle step on the accelerator clears it,so I haven't concerned myself with it.

I've had two new lambda sensors in about three years. I was also wondering if there was something fishy going on that was causing the lambda to play up.

Thanks again for your response.

Injector light coming on when hot looks to me to be heat soak related. Somewhere you have a dodgy connector[proberly an earth] which is getting hot and causing injector light to go on. Look at the earths, and ecu connections[also on ecu]. Also, because you use your heater, check its earth connection, it might share it with something else which is engine related. Sorry i cannot be more accurate, but without seeing the vehicle, it could be several things. Perhaps you should have the fault codes read by a good local garage who specialises in it.
Alternator will come on if your idle goes a bit low, but will go out if you blip pedal. Nothing to worry about. If it starts coming on whist driving, replace bushes in Alternator.

When this first started happening (before I made the link with the heater, and while the heater was still working perfectly) I took it down to a Fiat specialist, who couldn't replicate the warning light.

Furthermore, he said that his equipment also hadn't detected any previous instances of the light coming on,which apparently would have been stored, and able to be picked up.

Result: I left the garage with seemingly nothing wrong and £0 spent. Not usually a bad thing.

I guess if I was I was taking it back,I would at least be able to show him the light this time.
